Guilty Pleasures classics: Naughty Noughties

The 21st century has come of age and can finally do all those shocking things it’s been dying to do… not that we need any encouragement.

For the first time, people born in the 21st century – that’s 2000 and onward for those of us with a few more boozing miles on the clock – can enjoy Guilty Pleasures at KOKO firsthand. Turning 18 in ’18 means, quite simply, that you can get in!

So what tunes from your misspent youth or idyllic childhood can you expect to hear once you walk through those hallowed doors into our celestial pop kingdom? We pick our fave naughty Noughties bangers that we LOVE to play.

BRITNEY TOXIC

Britney Spears – Toxic
Too high, can’t come down? No such thing where Britney’s concerned. Higher, baby!

MIKA Grace Kelly

MIKA – Grace Kelly
You will sing this out loud and you will struggle to reach the high notes.

BLACK EYED PEAS pump it

Black Eyed Peas – Pump It
Before will.i.am was spinning around in a chair in The Voice he was screaming over a souped-up version of the Pulp Fiction theme tune. You had to be there. Hang on, you can be there! We play it!

sugababes-freak-like-me

Sugababes – Freak Like Me
“Let me lay it on the line…” They’d probably nick your dinner money and criticise your choice in footwear but has there ever been a girl group so exciting as Sugababes? (The answer is no.)

Justin Timberlake Rock Your Body

Justin Timberlake – Rock Your Body
We don’t encourage everyone to get “nekkid by the end of this song” but who are we to stop you if the fancy takes?

lady gaga bad romance

Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
Ma-ma-ma-mahh! Gaga: bad at romance, 💯 at pop.

pussycat-dolls-dont-cha-single-cover-2005

Pussycat Dolls – Don’t Cha
They’re never all gonna fit in that… is it a car? Whatever it is.

Panjabi MC – Mundian Tp Bach Ke

Hi this is a banger. Thanks.

shakira hips don't lie

Shakira – Hips Don’t Lie
Generally underrated as a protest song about the barbaric torture technique of wiring up pelvises to lie detector tests, Shakira (Shakira) and Wyclef really brought the banger magic to this one.

Bodyrockers

Bodyrockers – I Like the Way You Move
This one goes out to all the people who stand at the back kinda shuffling until this song goes on and then WHOOMP, it goes off.

outkast hey ya

Outkast – Hey Ya
“Shake it like a Polaroid picture” and please don’t ask what a Polaroid is – you’ll make us feel old. Just go with it.

rihanna umbrella

Rihanna – Umbrella
Splish splash. What did we ever do without RiRi, eh? I’ll tell you what we did – we cried every day wishing she would be invented. And then she was!

She’s outspoken, she’s got a right pair of lungs on her, and she’s coming to Mighty Hoopla. Here are our top 5 Charlotte Church moments:

1. Crazy Chick

2. Her fantastically bonkers, magnificent pop dungeon!

We cannot wait to see this in action. All your faves, sung to perfection by one of our absolutely faves. It’s a fave-fest!

3. Call My Name

Voice of an Angel, yes, but how about the moves? Charl could be a Guilty Pleasures regular in fact… hang on… she was!

4. When she told this story about being a bit tipsy (v drunk, tbh) in a hotel.

5. This 💯 cover of En Vogue’s Don’t Let Go.

Charlotte is keeping her Mighty Hoopla set under wraps until the big day… but you can be sure there’ll be some stellar covers and a few surprises! Don’t miss out!

They take no crap from anyone, they’ve been through thick and thin together, they’ve seen bad men,  big hits and scrapped over jackets – and they’re coming to Mighty Hoopla. 5 reasons we L O V E All Saints:

1. Never Ever

WHAT A SONG. Come on. You’ll be screaming out that spoken intro until you’re hoarse and you know it.

2. Black Coffee

Underrated, their last no.1 single in the UK was – dare we say it – even cooler than Pure Shores?

3. Rock Steady

From their mid-noughties comeback, another underrated gem.

4. One Strike

Their long-awaited 2016 return brought another amazing addition to the All Saints hall of fame. 👑

5. I Know Where It’s At

The song where it all began. What a classic.

And if you can’t BELIEVE we missed out Pure Shores, why not come and hear it for yourself, as nature intended, as All Saints play Mighty Hoopla on 4th June. Lovely. Hurry!

Will Young: 5 reasons we love him

Mighty Hoopla is COMING! Sunday. 4th June. Victoria Park. Fancy it? You should!

In the run-up to our very own one-day festival like no other, we look at the acts topping the bill to remind everyone a) they they’re the best and b) how amazing they’ll be when they’re playing Mighty Hoopla. Yes!

He was the victorious underdog in the most important election the world has ever seen (Pop Idol, and yes it was), he sings like a dream and if you’ve got the time, he’s got the hits. He’s Will Young:

1. Leave Right Now

OK, so it’s a slow one, but who could ever pass up the opportunity of causing a massive scene at a private party? We’ve all done it.

2. Jealousy

It’s a banger

3. Winning Pop Idol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5xLMNbN9V8

This was an iconic moment and don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

4. Joy

A definite underrated tune which sees Will escape life as a dreary mannequin. Or something.

5. Light My Fire

Covering the Doors? And doing it loungecore-style?! You betcha. And Will had the chops to carry it off. Smooooooooth.

We’re not sure quite what Will be serving up at the Mighty Hoopla – except realness, which is pretty much guaranteed – on 4th June, as it ‘s all a huge surprise. But the only you can find out for yourself is be there! Lovely. Hurry!

S Club: 5 reasons we love ’em

Are you READY to reach for the stars at Mighty Hoopla? Sunday4th June! Victoria Park! Join us!

As we count down to our very own one-day festival like no other, we take a closer look at the stars topping the bill to remind everyone a) they’re incredible pop icons and b) they’re going to tear it up at Mighty Hoopla. Yes!

tickets_redb

There ain’t no party like an S Club Party – any fool knows that, right? – so here are five reasons why S Club rule:

1. “Hoochie mamas, show your nanas”

As sung by the boys in the amazing S Club Party. What did it mean? Did they want to see the ladies’ bananas? A closer inspection of their grandmothers? We’ll never know.

2. Reach!

It doesn’t matter whether you’re reaching for the stars or that jar of pickled onions off the highest shelf in the kitchen, this pop banger sounds just as uplifting and inspiring today as it did in 2000.

3. Don’t Stop Movin’

Is this the ultimate S Club song? The one you want to hear above all others? It’s got some fierce competition from their other tracks but any pop connoisseur will argue passionately that Don’t Stop Movin’ is just as good as any Madonna or MJ song.

4. Never Had a Dream Come True

Slow dance at the school disco alert. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

5. Bring It All Back

The one where it all began. That dance routine is still iconic and we’ll be expecting to see ALL of you doing it at Mighty Hoopla! Get practising your moves and come join us on the 4th June. Loads of music! Food! Booze! Bouncing! Ball pools! Bingo! FUN!
