13 things that always happen at New Year

Bye bye 2016, hello New Year hangover. Whether you’re having a quiet one (WHY?!) or joining Guilty Pleasures in Edinburgh, Newcastle, the Natural History Museum or with Ultimate Power in London, we hope you have a ball.

But if you are venturing out somewhere, you just know at least one of these is gonna happen on your night out, right?

1. You get a text from a friend at 9pm saying “Just wishing u HNY now in case I can’t get through at midnight”. What they mean is they’ll be too wasted at midnight, but you play along – you’re just about to send the same text to your mum.

2. Someone will get the countdown wrong and wish you a Happy New 2017 a few seconds early.

3. There is always one friend who sleeps through it.

4. Someone gets separated from the group and has to have their Happy New Year hug from the total strangers they got stuck with.

5. One friend always gets chucked out (or wanders outside by mistake and isn’t allowed back in) before midnight.

6. Someone always goes home in a huff. You’re determined it won’t be you this year.

7. Someone asks you who your fancy dress costume is supposed to be. If you’re bot in fancy dress, you’re offended. If you ARE in fancy dress, you’re offended.

8. The song you hear right before midnight is suddenly, inexplicably your favourite song ever, until…

9. The song they play straight after the midnight countdown is the best song you have ever heard, even though you never used to like it that much, and you will try to Shazam it as you pogo up and down on the dancefloor, because you’ve forgotten what it’s called.

10. Someone will say: “This year is going to be my year”. They are wrong, because this year is your year, but you decide not to tell them this.

11. You will tell yourself not to be too drunk at midnight so you can remember everything and end up feeling too sober, so totally lose it after the countdown to make up for last time.

12. You find yourself letting bygones be bygones – until the 2nd Jan, anyway.

13. New Year’s kiss. WAAAAAY!

Oh, and if you’re at a Guilty Pleasures party, one thing that aaaaalways happens at New Year is you have an amazing time at the night of your life. Just saying.

New Year’s Eve Party announcement

London’s two best loved club nights Guilty Pleasures and Ultimate Power will join forces for a once in a lifetime New Years Eve extravaganza at London’s HMV Forum on 31 December.  Competing against each other with an arsenal of the greatest songs ever written, the two phenomenally popular club nights will battle it out to see in 2013 in the best possible way!

In the corner for all things pop is the ridiculously fun and incredibly successful Guilty Pleasures. First established in 2004 by super music fan, pop music aficionado and disco-lover Sean Rowley, Guilty Pleasures has been going strong for almost eight years with a dedicated following that grows every month. Having a well-established reputation for being the go-to destination for an all-out indulgent extravaganza, at Guilty Pleasures EVERYONE is invited – just be prepared to sing, dance, be dazzled, hypnotised by live performers and, most of all, have an absolutely sensational time on the biggest party night of the year!

Fighting the other corner we have the titans of power ballad appreciation, Ultimate Power.  Since 2006 Ultimate Power have been thrilling an ever amassing crowd with their communal appreciation of colossal tunes from the masters of power ballads: Collins, Loaf, Tyler and Jovi and many, many more besides. Every single song is a classic, every single song is known and loved by all, and every single song is never played at any other club night in the world except Ultimate Power. The uplifting, harmonious atmosphere is contagious and New Years Eve 2012 will be no exception.

This New Years Eve leave your inhibitions at the door of HMV Forum and indulge in your Guilty Pleasures and your unabashed love of the power ballad. This will the biggest night London has ever seen, a momentous joining of London’s best loved club nights to give you the most possible fun you could ever dream possible on New Years Eve!
